Bandwidth ThrottlingInstead of banning people from the site, I've decided to implement bandwidth throttling. This means that the speed of the website will be limited. Usage AbuseOver the past few weeks I've been noticing that some IP address's have been consuming very large amounts of data via the proxy services of this website. This caused me to go over my bandwidth allotment last month, so I have decided to implement a new system to ensure that this does not happen again. Any IP address that I observe using a large amount of data will be suspended for an undisclosed amount of time (usually a day or two). I consider a large amount of data to be about 1 GB, but this may decrease in time as the site becomes more popular. If you are suspended multiple times, you will be put on probation. If you continue to use large amounts of data while on probation, you will be banned for some amount of time to be determined later (probably around 2-4 weeks). When your ban ends you will be put on probation again. Each time you are banned (not suspended), your ban time will increase. Please note that this is only for the proxy services, you won't be blocked from playing the games. Also note that this system is not automatic, and I will review each individual case myself. Download AbuseI've noticed that people have been abusing this website by using the proxy to download large files. Because of this I have decided to put a hard limit of 20 MB on any downloads routed through the proxy.Published on 02/16/2012 at 12:22 AM |
